the usual notice re rates. On the motion of Messrs Nichol and Calder, the Clerk was instructed to apply to the County Council for a copy of the Taluation Roll.—This was done at the suggestion of the Chairman, who pointed out that under the new Act, the County is bound to provide the local bodies under their control with a copy of such roll. Mr Niohol gave notice that he would move at next meeting, that a rate of id in the £ be struck for the ensuing year. He thought it advisable to change to £d rate instead of the fd one of last year, in view of tbe prevailing tightness of money. He did not think that the settlers should be unduly harrassed; further, he had every reason to believe that tbe debentures maturing at the end of December could be renewed on favorable terms.— The Chairman approved of the motion. Their debentures were now down to L7OO —at least, they would be by the end of June, when L2OO worth would be retired —and so a £d rate should meet all requirements. In the event of the Board merging into the County Council, a threefarthings rate could then be imposed. The Inspector reported verbally on roads and culverts out of repair. He had -found that the damage by traction engines to culverts was frequently caused through the drivers not being able to use their planks, through the irregular nature of the approaches to the culverts. —On the motion of Messrs Kirk and Robertson, the Inspector was instructed to furnish a report at next meeting.— It was here pointed out that the dates ot meeting were now fixed by the Clerk, and as the Board would not probably meet again until tbe end of July, that would give the Inspector ample time to prepare his report. Resolved, on the motion of the Chairman and Mr Kirk, that the Inspector repair a culvert on road adjoining Mr Andrew Harvey's property, the present state of which caused damage from floodwaters to Mr Harvey's land. it the suggestion of the Clerk, it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Nicbol and Key, that the necessary arrangements be made for retiring the L2OO worth of debentures which would fall due on 30th June. On the motion of Messrs Kirk and Nichol, the members of the Waikaka subdivision were deputed to see that a culvert wss put over the Vallay road, above the schoolhouse, near the Clutha Uonntsr boundary. Tbe Clerk was instructed to acply to t&e County Council for LI, as a £ for £ subsidy .;-for [bird poison —this, on the naotion of Messrs Peter and Key. Mr Key drew attention to the unsatisfactory manner in which some gravelling had been done on Knapdale Lower road. —The Inspector said that was so; he would see that it was amended. The members of Waikaka subdivision were further charged, on the motion of Messrs Niehol and Calder, to inspect the road between Waikaka Valley railway siding and Bucholz's. On the motion of Messrs Peter and Robertson, the Clerk was instructed to write the Gore Borough Council, drawiag attention to the state of the boundary road between Gore municipality and Kaapdale road district. Mr Key said he hoped members would exercise their powers in the matter of keeping water-tables in order, by putting on surfacemen whenever such a course was desirable. He had recently ridden over several of the roads under the Board's jurisdiction, and found some of them were not in the best of order. The next meeting of the Board was fixed for Friday, 261h July, at 3 p.m.
