THE HALDANE STATE FARM SETTLEMENT.
THE SETTLERS GETTING TO WOKK We are clad to hear news from the Haldane settlement. One of the successful applicants at the recent ballot writes us in the following Btrain :— At present there are eight State farmers working on a sort of junction road east of the estuary, 1o fill in time, as it were, till the Inepector gives them lines to fell bu9h. One man has already taken his wife and family down to eection 24. I saw them trudging aloDg the Six Mile beach on Thursday last in tha rain. I am goiDg c'own immediately. The prevailing weather is not Al for going into ihe bush, &9 the frequent showers keep everything so damp. I am "up to my eyes getting ready \o start, as I want to make ene cleaH movr, and not hove to come back lor another ]oid. There seems to bt-no difficulty in getting meat and stons.
