THE EIRE AT GREENVALE.
TO THE EDITOR. KlB, — In Friday's issue of your paper a local appears regarding a fire at Mr J. Cullen's farm, Greenvale, in which it is said that " the fire 19 supposed to have originated from the ashes of lignite used in the threshing engine which had been working there," Aa I was in charge of the mill on that occasion, and this statement is calculated to point to a want of care on the part of the person in charge, I must ask you to correct it. The fire was seen to start on the opposite sido of the stack to that on which the engine stood, and the ashes were to be seen after the fire, with straw on top of them, but with no sign of fire in that particular spot. I may say these ashoa were the only ashes taken out of the engine at Mr Oullen'a piece, and wera taken out when the engine was cold, on Monday morning, before starting to thresh, and how your informant can, by any stretch of ima^iaation, lay the blame at my door puzzles all who havo soen it and,— Yours truly, John Brand.
