Southland Land Board.
The monthly meeting of the Board at Invercargill on Tuesday* was attended by Messrs Cowan (in the chair), Mclntyre and Kinross. Thomas Soper, who was represented by Mr W. B. Scandrett, applied for a lease in perpetuity of 640 acres near Parrawa. — Eeferred to the Warden. A. Bennie applied Ifor a lease of a reserve at Mataura adjoining the railway and close to the Waimumu creek at Ll per annum.—* Applicant to be asked to forward a specific sketch of the land required. E. W. Eobson applied for section 41, block 7, Waikawa, he being already tbe I occupier of the adjoining land. — Govern- j ment to be recommended to grant the application on the ground that Eobson is an improving settler with a large family. William Keown applied to occupy section 747, Hokonui. — To be offered a renewal of his grazing rights. Charles McKeivie applied to complete purchase of section 7, block 1, Mokoreta. —Granted. The following applications for land were granted : — Leases in perpetuity : George Kirk, section 5, block 5, Centre Hill ; Cirl Petersen, section 38, black 6, Otara ; N^il McEwan, sections 21 and 30, block 6 Otara. Small grazing run 23, Centre Hill district, Wm Mcintosh. A number of ap plications for time in which to pay arrears of rent were dealt with according to their respective circumstances, several sections being declared forfeited. It was resolved to recommend the opening of sectioß 1, block 2,. Wendon,side, for selection ou tue optional system, the ranger's valuation of the improvements thureon, L 476, being adopted. Eao ger Campbt li assessed the rental of section 7, block 9, Ohatton, at 61 per acre.— Approved, seotion to be offered at next sale. The Eeceiver of Land Bevenue asked to be instructed as to the disposal of "thirds," collected on account of the Lindhurst Eoad Board, now merged in the Southland County Council. — To be paid to the Council. A communication from the Knapdale Boad Board with referenoe to " thirds" held by the Eeceiver on their account was held over. James Paterson wrote asking for an enquiry into the expenditure of " thirds " accrued from section 9, block 14, Chatton. —Held orer. The ranger was instructed to report as to the improvements on a number of sections whicii had been declared forfeited or had been surrendered. ' Mrs E, Murrell applied for a 21 years lease of seotion Js, block 19, Manapouri township, at present heid by her under accommodation house license. — Granted. J. O'Brien having applied for section 13, Otara, it was decided to open the seotion for application by the public.
