OTARIA ROAD BOARD.

» An ordinary meeting of the above I Board was held on Wednesday afternoon, and there were present— Messrs j 3sobert9orj^(cJbairman), France, Clement, Elliott, and AdHms. !••. Ward "Farmers' Association from moneys comt ing due to him for road grading. — On . the motion of Messrs Clement aud Elliot', it was resolved that the letter be returned, as the writer bad no claim on the Board. Jobn G. Ketd wrote, stating that parts of the Slopedown road were in bad order. He would like something, to be done to it this season. — It was decided to spend L2 on the work asked for ; Mr Adams to fee to the expenditure. On the motion of Messrs Elliott and Clemeni, Mr^ Adams was thanked for bis kindness in supplying maps ol tbe subdivisions for the use of <hn B ard. A memo, from Mr McQueen (member for riding) indicm.ed that the County Couucil would be prepared to subsidise the Board to the amount of LI S on Scutt'ci road ; coal-pit roiid, L5 ; Aitken and McDowell's road, L 5. — Regarding this matter the chairman explained that be had seen Mr McQueen, who 'old him that tbe Council would Bubsidiee tbe Board in certain amounts, und in reply to a question as to where he thought i' war most nece-sary to spend the money, he (the chairman) mentioned the road a as above stated, such information being giv«-n (o tht- bes ! of his ability.— S.rong objection was nude by Mr Elliott to the manner adopted by fcLe chairman in tbis master. The money had not by any means been evenly distributed : each subdivision hhould have got a bhare. Th« subdivi^ioa of which he wus a member had betn overlooked altogether. He felt it his duty to make a strong protest at the way these suggestions had been mad<\ The chairman was going altogether out of his bounds in doing what he did. He hoped such would not occur again. — The Chairman reiterated his previous remark?, and other mpmbtTd took part in a very warm discussion, the out. como of which was the following resolution by Mi 1 Fliiott :— -" That the clerk write Mr McQueen, asking him to deduct L 5 from the amount proposed to be spent on Scott's road', and* place the same to the credit of the roads asked for in the Kaiwera sabdivision." — Seconded by Mr France, and carried unanimously. Mr Elliott reported that the Kaiwera members h»d agreed with Mr J. Burke to do road-making with a six-horse team at the rate of 25s per eight hours. Arrangements had also been made with Mr Wm. Lucas to take chaige of the grader afc the rate of 7s per day. When the grader was not working he could do surface work. — The arrangements were confirmed by the Board. Mr Clement stated that the Ofcaria members bad arranged matters same as stated iv previous paragraph, the Board guaranteeing Lucas work for one month in the three subdivisions. — Similarly agreed to. Mr Franco mentioned that he had seen Mr McQueen anent Catto's bridge. He was told by that gentleman that the Ki.apdale Road Board would have to contiibute one-half, towards its cost. — Held over until next meeting. With regard to Robertson's culvert, Mr France Btated that he bad satisfactorily arranged matters re this work. —Agreed to. Mr J. Yoight waited on the Board and apked that something should be done, to the creek near O'Hagan'e. Could the Board make a bridge or ford across the same, as, be had no outlet from hie land.— Membeis agreed that it was a vety necessary work, and Mr France moved, Mr Clement eeconded, and it waa earned, tint tbe applicant be granted L3 to make a ford hh beat he could under the circumstance?, lo more money being available. At the instance of Mr Elliott the transfer f rom Trumble's trustees to David Manson of sections 2, 3, 4s, and pre-emptive right, block 11, Waik^ka, wa* ordered to be made. The following accounts were passed for payment:— J. Scott, 10s 6d jR. Couperthwaitjv 15s j W. Lucas, Ll Os 6d; Wm. S.fodd, Ll 10?. Ifc was decided that tbe cletk write the engineer requesting him to prepare specifications, for work at Aitken's bride e ; the »nm of L6 to be epent in addiiio i to the Council's subsidy on road. Specifications were also ordered to be made for work on Scott's road, same to be approved of by the members interested. They were also empowered to flccepfc tenders. The meeting then adjourned.
