CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held at Balolutha on Friday. ; Mr James' A. Burt wrote asking the Council to repair the culverts on Popotunoa roid near (he Waipahi, as the wool and timber carting would soon com" mence. The cost would be about 50s. — Woik to be done. Messrs Kenyon and Hosking wrote on behalf of the executors in the estate of the late Captain Mackenzie asking for the deeds of certain closed roads, in order that the land might be transferred to the trustees.— Deeds to be giren up upon a proper title being given to the land for roads in lieu of those closed. The CHuton Town Board wrote stating that the Southland Oounty Council had rested in town boards the oontrol of the footpaths in the main streets in town districts and asking that the Clutha County Council dr. the same. The board also asked the council to make proper p ovision for to Main road being made to its full y, idth— Or . ftbodes movea— "That the control of the footpaths be vested in the Town Board, and thai the County subsidise the Town Bdard up to LlO in purchasing land to make the road its full width"— -Or Wallace woild like to see a resolution proposed asking the engineer to ascertain by whom this road (which was part of the Main South road) was reduced by 20 links. It must have been done by the Survey department. The Survey department is responsible for the alteration, and the county should not be called upon to purchase land to make the road its full width.— Cr Rhodes' motion with regard to this matter was withdrawn, and another embodying what Or Wallace had said was passed, and the council agreed to pass a special order vesting in the Town Hoard the control of the footpaths. Cr Robertson presented a poiiiion from 19 settlers near Kelso ask>ng that the road alongside of J. Russell's and J. Noble's sections be made in a passable state, and expressing, the. opinions that the road required forming and gravelling for about 10 chains. Owing to the sale of Lean's property the road was- now much used. — Engineer to inspect and report at next meeting. ■' The engineer reported that the bridge over the Waipahi stream on the main south road required replanking. It would take about 4000 ft of timber.— To be attended to. Proposed by Cr Wallace and seconded by Cr Rhodes— " That the engineer be instructed to make enquiry as to who authorised the alteration of the Main South road at the Temperance Hotel, Clinton, and that the Survey department be requested to have the road made to its proper width,"
