PRODUCE MARKETS.
Messrs John McNairn and Co., of Glasgow, report under date May 11 :— Daring this last month the trade for butter especially has been a very poor one, and with lovely weather for grass and the prospect of heavy supplies coming in from Ireland and Denmark, prices have receded somewhat, and to-day it is very hard to get on unless one is inclined to slaughter stuff. Colonial, fortunately, is in very poor supply, but any that is left has to be realise! at low rate*. We heard the other day of some eales having taken place in London of some New Zealand butter at 60s, and of fairly gtod quality. Cheese are altogether in a different position, and to-day tbe market is firm in all positions. For choice New Zealand w.e are making 53s to 51s, and expect to have a good demand for these. Home cheese are a dull aDd dragging Bale. The consumption seems to have gone eft consideiably during the last two or three months, and we oan only account for this by general b»d trade, because it has been cheap again;-t other articles of food. Tbe weather during the last three months has been magnificent, as if summer had come too early. The crops are looking veiy well just now, and if we have rain early we ahou'd re=»p excellent cops, On tbe Continent, however, it has been different, they having had vciy dry 1 weather, and we understand tbe crops there are slightly impaired.
