THE WAT THE MONET GOES.
Chief-Engineer Blackett thinks works costing L 77.000 are needed to preserve the New Plymouth harbor; the money to be spent slowly over several years. THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND ELave earned ten per cent, per annum on their capital for the half year, and will pay seven per cent. On the directors' recommendation an influential committee was appointed to examine securities (many being unprofitable, thus accounting for the small profits), and report which should be realised. The committee are Justice Gillies, Mr W. H. Colbeck (Auckland), Hon. Walter Johnston (Wellington), Mr John McLean (Otago), and Mr George Buckley (London). The new directors, vice Mr Williamson (dead) and Mr G. B. Owen (resigned), are the Hon. Walter Johnston (Wellington) and Mr George Buckley. Deposits only shrank L 64,000 out of L 10,000,000 deposited. SirF. Whittaker the chairman, expressed a hope that the depression would not continue much longer.
