LOST A BOY
Her hands were idly. folded, A tear was in her eye j ■ ' She. looked out from the window, ' And' heaved a heavy sigh. . There were no flights of sadness . There were no sounds of pain r Yet felt she no heart-gladness, : ' And tried to amile — in vain. On the young tennis ; players '...;•" That dotted the green lawn Her sad gaze ever rested—^ Where was-Tier own boy gone — . Whom she had nursed and fondled, * Whom* she had taught and fed, : " Gapped and caressed arid scolded, Tucked up each night in bed ? *■■?/ ><=. .• . :• ;• . ■ ■' There in a " masher" collar, And dainted twisty tie, Was one — well — something like him— Another dismal sigh ! , That could not be her darling? Her boy, her boy is lost ! .-' Gone from her sight; as truly As if the seas were crossed. Boys disappear, how often-! In depths of dreadful seas ; From heights of jagged mountains, But — — in ? more ways than these. , In manhood's ipasher collars, In rainbow-tinted ties — -JJeavipg. their lonely mothora , . . -, J ' To'urivailing sigba. •-••.;
