Thie first clause was agreed to. The chairman ci- f plained that the second was for fchepurpose of « reducing the minimum from 25 to 20, giving"; the teacher with an average of 20 afixeft" \ salary of £10,0, and £6 for every additional" pupil up to 25. This, it was thought, would ' tend to improve the class of teachers at sinai 1 '; schools, as it would be offering more inducement. Under the old system, if a teacher had an average of 25 his salary would be £130, but if he only had 24, it would drop dov^n to , , £96. That was too great a difference, and under the new system, if approved , ,by "'tho',^. Board, there would only be a diminution,^f* ' £6 for every .pupil. The member^ present , . concurred with.the chairman's jyiew^.and^e^^ clausefwai unariinwiiily^^ were .altered . to correspond. ;i , ; yj ;, > J Accounts and salaries amounting to £2098,.. j , 15s lid were passed for payment, as. alaowaSj ( . the sum necessary to reinstate the teachers' . , ; salaries for the month, £27 75. 3d, , .
