" DOING" A WEST-END TAILOR.

Some two months ago a well-dressed man called at a West- End tailor's, and presenting a card of Lord Blank's said that nobleman had recommended him to patronise that shop. He was measured for two suits of clothes, which after being duly tried on were sent to a private hotel near St. James street, where he was stopping. The next day he called at the tailors, said the things fitted him admirably, and insisted upon paying for them there and then. He also ordered another suit, and payed the tailor some L3O in Bank of England notes. A third time he went to the shop, aud whilst looking at some patterns asked, 1 as if he only just remembered, whether the London banks close at three o'clock on Saturday, which it happened to be. The customer was in despair. He wanted to run over to Paris that night, aud as the establishment he banked with was in the city he had not time to get a cheque, which was for £120 cashed. As a matter of course the tailor offered to cash the cheque, and it was passed on to the tailor's bank on the Monday, and returned the next day with the words "No account " attached to it. And to make matters worse, the notes paid by the swindler were found to be stopped. It is needless to say that when a reference was made to Lord Blank, the latter said he knew nothing of the gentleman who had favoured the tailor with his patronage.
