In tlie House last night, in replying to a question, whether in view of the present interruption of the Port Darwin - Banjoewangi cables, Government had taken under consideration the proposal for the construction of a Pacific cable, and also whether Government would, in conjunction with the other Australasian colonies, grant assistance to expedite the survey of the route with further surveying ships beyond H.M.iS. Egeria, Sir H. Parkes stated that the expediency of taking up the construction of cable from Vancouver had not been under the consideration of the Cabinet, and he further mentioned that no action would be taken by Government without the sanction of Parliament.

In the House last night a lively debate took place on the proposal for a daily issue of Hansard. Ultimately it was decided to continue the present arrangement. The House has passed a vote of £4OOO to be devoted to the rifle matches to be held during the time the Exhibition is open. The sentenco of death passed on Michael O’Shea at the Beech worth Assizes, for murdering his son, has been commuted by the Governor, as it has been ascertained that the accused was not responsible for his action, and the medical gentlemen have reported that he is insane.
