(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, May 17. Tho inquest on John Morton, who was found dead at Lyttelton on Monday, was concluded to-day, when a letter was read from deceased to a res-dent in Timaru, stating that he intended to commit suicide on account of troubles connected with money, and that he had previously attempted suicide but only had made himself ill, and had beer-, in the hospital where the doctors did not find out what was really the matter with him. It was proved he had bought “ Rough on Rats ” at a chemist’s shop in Christchurch. A verdict of suicide by taking “Rough on Rats ” was returned. Wellington, May 17.
A Maori woman named Were Poki, at Otaki, wife of Roach, a halfcaste, cut her throat yesterday. The wound is not serious. She will he brought to town tonight, and is considered :insane. A young girl named Vlatilda Simpson was sent to the Industrial School to-day for stealing several gold bracelets and lockets from Messrs Hisl jp and Littlejohn jewellers. She made a practice of pricing goods, and when the shopman’s back was turned, she pocketed the articles,
