CRICKET.

TELEGRAPHISTS V. WAIRAU 0.0. The above match, the second this season, was played on Saturday, and resulted in a victory for the former by 17 runs. A first-rate wicket had been prepared, and the batsmen should have taken more advantage of it than they did as the bowling, especially that of the Telegraphists, was deplorably weak. The chief feature of the Telegraphists’ batting was the stand made by Tovey and Gannaway who, by good sterling play, raised the score from 30 to GO at a critical stage of the game. For the Club, Branson and Cramp showed good form, and Taylor made some pretty leg hits, rather a novelty in our local cricket, but tlio others wero all at sea with the slow lobs of Cross and Gannaway, whose analysis is rather instructive, the former obtaining G wickets for 15 runs, and shows how weak our batsmen are with a tricky slow bowler. The fielding of the Club was very fair, Crump, Collins, and Dr Nairn being chiefly conspicuous, but the Telegraphists made a very poor show, excepting, perhaps, Harris, who worked hard, and at times brilliantly, and fully deserves the ttophy awarded him by the members of the A Section in their Cup matches. Several fairly easy catches wero missed by players who ought by this time to bo superior to such weaknesses. Dr Nairn captained the Club, and Tovey the Telegraphists, Messrs Budge and Humphries acting as umpires. Appended are the scores : 'TELEGRAPH.—First Innings. Canavan, c Lucas b M‘lver ... ..
