After tin- minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed a quantity of correspondence was read. TENDERS FOE FEINTING. | The tenders for printing being so close to each other in amount, it was resolved that they be referred to Crs BythoL, M‘Artney and Green to report upon at the next meeting of tho Council, to be held on Wednesday. The said committee were also appointed to report upon tho tenders for advertising in the Times and Express. The Committee reported on the nuisance on Beaver Road complained of by Mrs M'Coil, but they dul net recommend that the Conned .-honld do anything in the matter, suggesting that, the nuisance could easily be remedied by herself. Ti e report was adopted. GASWuRKs’ EFFORT. • The following report from the GasI works’ Committee was read : J “lu view of the loan being settled we have much pleasure in recommending a reduction of 2s (id per 1000. We also have much pleasure in advising the Council to allow the Eire Brigade Station to have the use of gas free of charge. In 10 or 18 days tho coal will be exhausted and a supply of about 120 tons will require to be ordered. We also advise that a lamp be erected on a telegraph post in the Maxwell Road near tho South Star Hotel.” Cr Jellyman moved that tho clause referring to the Town Clerk collecting gas accounts be struck out. Crs AT Artney and Cliing held similar views. Cr Cooke considered the clause should remain, because it was a well-known fact that it was not sufficient to make out bills, us those owing money must be waited upon. Some people no doubt would come to tho office to pay, but the majority of gas consumers would nut . Cr Bythell said that many persons would sooner have their gas cut olf than leave their work to come down and pay their gas accounts. The report was then adopted as read. THE NEW FIRE ENGINE With regard to the petition for raising a special loan for the purchase of a now fire engine, Cr M'Artney was informed by the Mayor that it would be necessary for him to give notice of a special motion before tho matter could be dealt with. MISCELLANEOUS. A letter was received from Mr Gannaway informing the Council that the Telegraph Department had no intention of painting tho telegraph posts. Tho consideration of a letter from Mr C. Griffiths was allowed to stand over till next meeting of the Council (Wednesday next). TIIE LOAN. A letter was received from tho manager of the Wellington Trust, Loan and Investment Company in reference to the Council’s acceptance of their tender for the £14,000 loan, and asking the Council to make tlieir coupons and debentures payable in any part of the colony, and not in Blenheim only. Mr Files, the manager of the Bank of New Zealand, wrote stating that he would forward the debentures on to any Bank in the Colony at one-eighth per cent. Air Files pointed out that agreeing to tho Loan Company’s suggestion opened the doors to fraud, as the signatures of the Councillors would not be known in many places. Tho Colonial Bank offered to forward the debentures at one-quarter per cent. Cr Cliing moved that the Loan Company’s offer could not be accepted unless on the terms us stated by the Mayor, and tha t che Council expect them to adhere to their original terms, viz., that the debentures he paid or'y in Blenheim. Cr Jellyman seconded the motion, which was carried without discussion. LEGAL. The Council agreed not to pay Messrs Rogers and Barleymau’s account in connection with Mr Boamsley’s law costs. Tho bi M was £3 10s. TAYLOR BIVER. The Council agreed to adjourn the consideration of the report on the Taylor River by the Inspector of Works until tho report from tho River Board lmd also been received. At this stage the Council find'ug it impossible to get through all the work on tho order paper adjourned vitil next Wednesday,
