(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, August 9. It is stated that Mr Allan Scott, General manager of the Midland Railway Company, has received a cablegram that the new contract between the Government and the Company has been settled. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at five minutes to 2 this afternoon. It was also felt at Culverden, Ambsrley and Rangiora. 1 Dunedin, August 8. The R.M. decided to-day that the City Council as tho Central Board of Health, were liable for fees to medical men for reporting cases of infectious diseases. Wellington, August 8. A fisherman named Ambrose, who received injuries through a horse bolting a few days ago, died last night.
