LOCAL & GENERAL NEWS.

Held Over. —Owing to pressure on space we arc compelled to hold over a letter from the Hon. Mr Clifford. Sale of Farm Stock.—Mr S, J. Maealister will sell the whole of the farm stock and implements on his farm near Dillon’s Point, at noon, on Friday.

Meeting of Creditors.—A meeting of creditors in the estate of H. Dunstall will be held at two o’clock to-day. Clearing Sale. —Mr W. Carr, of Market-street South, notifies that he is selling tinware, etc., at greatly reduced prices.

Government Insurance. —Mr Lorie, resident agent, for the Government Insurance Department, will he pleased to meet any poliey holders in the Chief Postmaster’s room between, 9 and 10 a.m. to-day, or any day early in the week.

Ciiurcii of the Nativity.—The Rev, T, H. Flavell, of Merivale, Christchurch, was the preacher at the Ch ureli o: Nativity yesterday evening, and deliverer an impressive sermon. There was a full choral service.

The s.s. Kanieri : —The departure of the s.s. Kanieri from Wellington was postponed from Saturday till this morning. She should arrive in Blenheim some time this afternoon.

Application for Patent.—Among thapplications for patents notified in the New Zealand Gazette, is one by Mr William Douslin, architect of Blenheim, for a spindle for locks and attaching knobs to spindles. Business Change.—The business lately carried on by Messrs Browa and Eyas, Drapers of this town is about to change hands, and to facilitate this the premises will be closed for some time to enable stock to be taken. Mr T. Swede.—Mr T, Swede, formally of Picton, has taken the well known Bank Hotel, in Manners-street, Wellington, lie has many friends in Marlborough who will be sure to visit his house when they take a trip to Wellington, Omaka Road Board.—The polling for the election of members of the Renwick sub-division of the Omaka Board took place on Saturday, with the following result: —Mr T. Coleman 73 votes, Mr James Sinclair 51, Mr W. B. Parksr 59, Mr J. Harris 39, Messrs Coleman and Sinclair were declared to be duly elected.

Anniversary Dinner.—The Anniversary of the Mistletoe Lodge of Druids, will be celebrated by a dinner at the Criterion Hotel on Wednesday the ISth inst. His Worship the Mayor will preside. Tickets may be obtained at Mr Denney’s, at Mr Tuckers’, at the Criterion Hotel, and from the Secretary. Industrial Exhibition. —lntending exhibitors in die exhibition of the Marlborough Art and Industrial Society’s Exhibit on, are reminded that exhibits must be sent to Ewart’s Hall not later than five o’clock this afternoon. Among the exhibits will be two violins, locally made, and some very fine specimens of wool-work, which have been lately displayed in Mr Falconer's window.

Spring Creek Road Board. —At the el - ction of three members of the Spring Creek Road Board on Friday, Messrs J. H Redwood, G, Dodson and Isaac Gifford were returned.

The Gas Holder. The new gas holder was filled with water on Friday to test its tightness, with the result. that not the slightest leak could he perceived. On Saturday, during the middle of the day. owing to the expansion of the air from the increased temperature, the holder was slightly raised, and at night it dropped to its original level. The work is highly credited) e to Mr Jones, who did all the rivetting, and has made an honest and most satisfactory job of it. The tank, with 18ft Gin of water in it. is also perfectly tight, the water standing constantly at the same height.
