Notwithstanding the various changes made in the advertisedjprogramnie caused by the unavoidable absence of those who e services had been promised, the items substituted were all that could be desired and even more fchan might have been expected considering the very arduous duties the Committee had to perform throughout a long day; At Picton the great attraction was, of course, THE PICTON REGATTA, which was an unqualified success. The weather was splendid for the spectators and for the rowing races, but there was hardly enough wind for the sailing races. The officers for the (b y were— Judge—Captain James Starter-»D. M'Cormick, Esq. Treasurer—B. O. Waddy, Esq Secretary—Titos H. Barstow, Esq Handicapper—T. Philpotts, Esq, and, »eedh ss to ray, they discharged their duties most satisfactorily. To the energetic and obliging Seen.taiy our thanks are especially due. and to ihe genial Judge, who made everyone so much at Jyjuie aboard the Helen Denny—the flagships', The regatta was visited by yachtsmen and canoeists from Well ngton, among whom we noticed Dr Rawson (“ Albatrf ss,” c.incc). H. Fothiudey (“Beeswing,” canoe), W. Fl'zgerald “Geroit Mote,” canoes. C K Batkin 4 - lsco,’’, yacht), and btlu-is, and a 'urge number of Iccal lcshlent?. The Union Co’s steamer Grafton brought over about seventy excursionists from Wellington, and several hutmred journeyed down from Blenheim. So that Picton presented quite a gay ami pretty scene, U pd the day , Uiosoughly enjoyed. The flagshi, . Midway on tire course the “ Blenheim’s ’’ stroke slipped his slide aud the boat had to stop whilst he readjusted it. The time thus lost dea Toyed whatever chance the “Blenheim ” may have had of winning. At the finish “ Blenheim ” was a dozen lengths away from the winning boat and four ahead of the “ Waitohi.” The “ Arapawa”crew pulled nicely together and De Caslro quite deserved the “ Well pulled Blenheim bow” that greeted him from the flags I ' ip.
