[ HAVING JUST REMOVED INTO OUR NEW PREMISES. WE have much pleasure in inviting the public of Marlborough to pay us a visit and inspect our premises and stock, which will be found equal to anything of the kind in the colony. We have spared no expense that we thought would conduce to the public convenience and comfort, and by taking advantage of all the latest improvements in I.ghting and ventilating, we have succeeded in getting spacious and splendidly lighted rooms. We have arranged them in such a manner that each department is quite separate, and at the same time easily accessible. There are two items we wish to draw the attention of our Lady Friends to, viz., the • ' Dressmaking Department and the Ladies’ Club or Reading 1 Room, i Tivo matters-that are very important to both town and country residents. The Dressmaking Department is uuder the management of Miss Meredith, which is; sufficient guarantee that everything in the department will be turned out thoroughly satisfactory in every respect, as her testimonials, references and, work already done will prove. The Ladies’ Club is a novelty here, and it will lie found to be a great convenience to both town and country people. It is' fitted up comfortably with Lavatory, etc. The latest fashions will be kept on the table for anyone to examine free gratis, and we invite the ladies of Marlborough, as well as visitors from other provinces, to take advantage of and use the rooms freely. Writing materials will also be provided free, and anybody wishing to make an appointment to meet her friends, where they can have a quiet chat, or transact any business they may wish,.can do so in this room as freely and comfortably as if she were in her private club or hotel, or elsewhere. Persons using the room will not be pressed to buy anything unless they want to. The room is situated so that anyone wishing to use it can go direct to it, and stay as long as she likes, and leave whenever she likes, without being questioned or solicited to purchase. We wish it to be clearly understood that this is a public room (for ladies only) and free, and we hope the ladies of Marlborough will make free uee of it. . OUR SHIPMENTS OF NEW SPRING GOODS have' ARRIVED per s.s. Rimutald, Coptic, rand Ruapehu, and as they comprise all the. Latest Novelties, carefully selected by Mr T\ J. Litchfield in the Home markets, ’we have great confidence that, in submitting them for inspection to the public, we shall be able to please the most fastidious. As the stock has been specially bought to open the new shop, the quantity is not only larger than usual, but the value is specially good, for the reason that we have marked the prices very low to meet the bad times. We are determined to make our establishment not only the largest and BEST, but the Cheapest in the Colony. We have pointed out before to-day the advantage we have in being the oldest establishment in the province, and also the benefit of Mr F. J. Litchfield’s experience and sound judgment in buying for us, and,' as we pay cash and buy direct from the producers, we save all intermediate profits, and are able to give our customers' sound sterling goods at Wholesale Prices. We do not lay ourselves out to keep rubbishy stuff, so that we can quote a long list ol ! absurdly low prices. Our motto has always been to give our customers a really good sterling article at a moderate price, so that they will be satisfied with it, and come back again. And the soundness of our policy is proved by the fact that our business has gone on steadily increasing for the last 26 years, and we intend to try to make it contiuue to increase, by giving our customers good honest value for their money. With these few introductory remarks, we invite the publieto call and inspect our premises and stock, and leave them to judge for themselves as to the choice, style, quality, and value, feeling sure the verdict will be in favor of LITCHFIELD & SON, DRAPERS, CLOTHIERS, & GROCERS. Mayoral Election* TO THE BURGESSES OF THE BOROUGH OF BLENHEIM. 1- adies and gentlemen J —lt has been represented to me that a strong feeling of dissatisfaction exists whh respect to the two. candidates soiicii ing election for the Mayoralty. It is objected to Mr Henderson that two years are long enough for anyone to occupy the office of Mayor ; and to Mr Douslin, that he is avi ry unsuitable person, owing to his not having any idea of economy in d?aling with the ratepayers’ money, and his being given to extravagant and wild schemes. In consequence, a large number of electors have (to use a Btereotyped phrase, though in this case a true one) asked me to stand for the office, believing teat 1 shall do my best as Chairman of the Council to conduct it with economy and fairness. . . Electors’.—l respectfully solicit your support for this honourable office ; but, I must iuforrn you (on principal) I shall not canvass or ask for promises as I have always thought, and do so now, that it is unfoir and insulting to an elector, as he is quite able, I take it, to exercise his judgment on the merits of the candidates. , ■ if our s faithfully 1021 GEO.
