THE GASWORKS.
At last night’s meeting of the Council his Worship the Mayor reminded the Connell that the three months' tipig allowed by Mr Pritchard would expire on the 13th insfc, If the Council intended to pnrehaie, an offer must be made by that date. Hs congratulated the Council an the evident confidence reposed in them by the burgesses as showa by the recent poll on the question. The following letters were read ; From ijr John Kerr, as follows : <• i jjndtystand }£ is ths indention of the Gounoil either to pqrcba*e or erect gasworks for the Borough of Blenheim. A cheap patent and successful system of lighting has lately been purchased by me. It is my intention to exhibit this invention by lighting a building in Blenheim so that its merits can be practically tested by the Borough Councillors and the inhabitants of the town before being brought into every-day use. I would therefore ask you before making any arrangements for the erection or purchase of wqjfkt [o iiripnest and carefully consider the adv/sability qt adontirig the gas manufactured by ipe, which' 1 *ijj prepared to sell to fhe Borough ot Blenheim at a ijjodearte o- ft, I ehf’l exhibit thg g&s in any building you n}*y desire to aee it in at any time within the next two or three week*.— John Kerb.”
From the Town Clerk, Masterton Bcrough Council, giving certarn information relitive to the Masterton gasworks. Th« Council then went into committee to consider the question of the purchase or the gas works-. Upoo the Council resuming, His Worship the May-r reported that the committee had come to the following resolution
" That an offer of £12,000 be made Jto Mr 3fr for the Blenheim gas! works, on condition that the gphotdlr pow being erected be ‘compittel and proved fcj'be m Spqd working order ajid that two bed* of retor’s of five each he replaced wi-h new Stourbridge made retorts ; that the purchase include all land,building*, plant, service*, and meters and that the whole shall be banded over in good working order to the satisfaction qf tlje Council, the offer to l>t open till the'lStnof Jioyerabep neft.” Bis Worship moved the adaption pf the resolution. ■ 1 :i
