London, August 5. —A cablegram from New York says that there is a split among the American members of the Irish Nationalist League. Widens of the New York branch denouncing Egan’s low ruffianism. Auckland, Aug. 16 The following London cablegrams were received per Mariposa : The question of a future Colonial Indian Exhibition is now under consideration. It is suggeste 1 that the exhibition should be closed in two months, and be reopened next year,an endeavour being ma lein the meantime to remedy the defects apparent insomeof the Courts. This proposal, however, is meeting with strong opposition, especially on the part of nearly all the Executive Commissioners, who are of opinion that it would be a prolongation which is unneessary, and would bo unprofitable. The proposed testimonial to the Prince of Woles, in recognition of his services as President of the Commission for the Colonial andjlndian Exhibition, has not been taken up so heartily as was expected. Up to the present there are only a few subscribers. The World predicts that the Prince will decline the testimonial.
The - advocates of Northern Queensland separation are making progress. At their request the Earl of Dunraveu has consented to introduce an Enabling Bill into the House of Lords.
The Republique Franeaise lias lengthy articles on the New Hebrides question. It declares that England wants the is'ands, and is, therefore, angry at the French Goverment, but it ridicules England’s claim, and asserts there is not the slightest justification for it. France, continues the paper, has forestalled England, and has practically annexed the islands. That being to she will never withdraw her flag or her troops despite all that may be said about her action.
