The complete and corrected census returns, taken on the 28th March last, and showing the total population of the Colony ; the population in counties, boroughs, and ou shipboard ; and the population in ridings of counties, load and town districts, have been presented to Parliament. The returns are exclusive of 1,073 persons on board three German warships lying in Auckland harbor on the day the census was taken, exclusive of Maoris (who, in 1881, numbered 41,432 persons) and exclusive of the population of the Chatham Islands, of which the returns are not yet received. The totals are as follow :

In our own district the following figures will be read with interest, COUNTIES.
We may here remark that the population of the Borough of Blenheim is above that of New Plymouth, Hokitika, Gisborne, Port Chalmers, Milton, Balclutha, and Lawrence (all of which are much older towns') and many other liss important plttC! s.
