THE FIRE QUEEN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sr it,—May I ask the favor of space in your paper in which to suggest a scheme that would probably, if carried into efTocb, put an end to the squabbles now so constantly arising respecting the manner in which the new steam firo engine is worked by the present Brigade. 1 would suggest that a new Volunteer Fire Brigade should be formed consisting of, say, 20 to 25 young and active in°n, to whom should bo handed over tho hand engine, old hose reel, and sufficient boso for ordinary requirements. I mention 20 or 25 as the probable number required with tho idea that they should be completely free of all extraneous aid for pumping, die., and so have in every way the sole control of the engine, Of course arrangements as to relays for pumping work and all other detai's would be matters to be settled amongst the members themselves. I am perfectly certain that if this project was carried out and a body of smart young men organised, under the command of efficient officers, in whom the men had confidence, and who would drill them thoroughly, especially maintaining discipline, we should see the water played on fires here with a celerity ihat would considerably astonish those who have grown accustomed to tho present state of affairs.—l am, etc., Traveller[Wc havo been compelled to omit a portion of tho above letter- This correspondence must now ceasoEd- M-D.T].
