MARLBOROUGH EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Marlborough Education Board, held yesterday morning, was attended by Messrs Seymour (chairman), Hutcheson, Henderson, Sinclair, Parker and Lambert. KEKERANGU. A letter was received from Inspector Hodgson, in reply to the strictures passed upon his last report by the Kekerangu School Committee. He admitted that the extenuating circumstances in favour of Mr Andrews had been unwittingly understated by him ; that he considered that his (Mr Hodgson’s) expression “about six months,” us the time Mr Andrews had been at work, did not warrant the angry strictures in question. Mr Andrews had been actually at work for 97 days out of 110, which was the ordinary full half year. He was glad the committee had such unbounded confidence in Mr Andrews, and hoped it would be justified by the success of his pupils when they are next examined under more favourable auspices. Mr Sinclair moved—That a copy of the letter be sent to the School Committee. He expressed dissatisfaction with the Inspector’s explanation, as the latter should have stated in his report that between his examinations there were intervals, in one case of two years and one month, and in another of one year and six months. The report was not truthful when it said that “ failures had been hitherto unknown,” Mr Lambert seconded the motion, which was carried, _ FAIRHALL SCHOOL. The architect’s report on the proposed additions to the Fairhall School was read. On the motion of Mr Sinclair, it waß resolved—That tenders be called for the work. picton. A circular from the Education Department was read, stating that it was intended to revise the list of authorised school books, and requesting to know what were used under the Board.
