'/(V-r.iMT / : Junq 14. The* Havelock School Committee met on Monday evening • last. Present—Messrs A. Mills (chairman),. Brown, Dive, Firth, Jones, Lxvien.and Smith.... .. Applications were received from four candidates..for.'the situation .ofi mistress the lower school. The following letter was 1 received from Mr Reynolds, being the monthly report: — Havelock School, .June 10th. ; The/return for the month of May is as follows,:—.. . . . . . LFpper school ■: Boys—On roll. 26 ; working average, 24. Girls —011 roll, 32 ; working average, 28.. Lower school : Boys On roll, 26; working average, 23, Girls—On roll, 26 ; working average, 22’ Total on roll, 110, and total working average, 97. ‘ The above school shows a satisfactory increase. - I should Committee to adopt the same midwinter holidays as the Blenheim schools, viz., from Friday, June 16th till Monday, July 3rd. As the lower school requires entire reorganisation I wish to spend a couple of days there.at the commencement of next quarter for that purpose. This will necessitate the upper school meeting two days later. I trust the Committee will approve Mrs Reynolds’ application for the position as mistress. The building of the new school being postponed for a short time I shall, endeavor to do . my best under such disadvantageous circumstances, but the work cannot be firm rate. The late heavy raius have proved the roof-of ,my residence to be in a. very

leaky condition. Books to the amount of LI Os 4d have been sold during the past month. Jacob Reynolds. MrLcvien informed the Committee that he was attending Mrs Sevei'ne, and the following letter addressed to Mr Reynolds was read:— “ I beg most respectfully to inform you that Mr 3 Scvcrno will he unable to attend to her duties for a few days through severe illness, and I think, as you propose, it would be advisable to close the school till after the holidays. t G. E. Lev ten. It was resolved —That the infant school be closed at once for the holidays and reopen on Monday, July 3rd, and the boys school on Friday, IGth instant, and re-open on Wednesday, July nth, and the master be in attendance at the infant school on its opening for the two days prior to the opening of the boys’ school. Resolved—That the Chairman forward tht name of Mrs Reynolds to the Central Board as being the person selected by thi3 Committee as mistress of the infant school. Resolved—That the Committee apply for a return of Mr Horton’s account. Resolved—That Mr Reynolds interview the architect and point out to him the bad state of the roof where the leaks are in his residence. The, following accounts were passed for payment:—Brownlee and Co., LI 19s Gd ; R. Jones, 15s ; C. Blackbee, LI ; T. Brown, L2 ISs Gd ; C. F. Horton (balance), 7s Gd ; Mills Bros., 128.. The Havelock Board of Works met on Monday.Present—Messrs Smith (chairman), Dorreen, Morison, Ferry and Yarkcr. It was resolved that Mr Douslin be asked to represent the Boardat a Conference of the Local Bodies to he held in Blenheim ; that the water tables be cleaned out and other necessary work he done, an 1 that day labor be employed.
