RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Blenheim, Monday, May 22. (Before J. J. Turnbull, K.M.) riU.lr.K V. MAUDKSLEY. Breach of Borough Bye-laws in riding a ' horse over the Omaha Bridge at other than j a walking pace. i ’The defendant, who did not appear, i pleaded not guilty through his solicitor, j Mr McNab. j Police Constable White deposed that on ! the loth instant, he saw the defendant j coming along the Grove Road. He catiI tered over the bridge and round the corner. ! By Mr McNab : He did not “ break” j coming over the bridge.
By His Worship : Was in a position to clearly see the defendant. Mr McNab submitted that the case should he dismissed as the powers of the Municipal Corporation Act were strictly defined and the Borough Council had no power to make such a by-law. His Worship said it seemed to him that his duty was very simple, aud as it had been proved that the offence had been committed he would fine the defendant os and costs. POLICE V. MAW'DESLEV. Breach of Borough Bye-Laws in riding a horse other at than a walking pace round the corner of Alfred-street. This information arose out of the previous one, and under the circumstauces the police withdrew the information. POLICE V. MCKENZIE. For keeping an unregistered dog. Defendant pleaded guilty aud was fined Is and costs. JELLYMAN Y. JELLYMAN. Mr McNab, who appeared for the defendant, asked for an adjournment. Case postponed until the 29th instant. THOMPSON V. HUNTER. Case adjourned till the 29th instant. EARLL & MACKENZIE V. F. CHANDLER. Debt L 4 15s. Defendant did not appear. Mr Earl! proved the claim and judgment was given for L 4 11s, and costs 7s. The Court then adjourned. . ,
