ANZAC DAY

MATAMATA OBSERVANCE Parade and Service

Arrangements for the observance of Anzac Day in Matamata to-mor-row have been completed and are similar last year’s. •. To accommodate the increased attendances of recent years a move was made from the Town Hall to the Regent Theatre. By courtesy of the theatre management the Regent has again been made available. The service will be started promptly at 2 p.m. The Rev; J. H. Combes will give the address, and other minister's taking part will be Canon F. Quintrell, the Rev. A. R. Witheford and Captain G. E. Fitness. Mrs. E. E. Clinch will be the soloist. Special music w.ll be played before and after the service. The Matamata Citizens Band and the Putaruru Band will lead the parade and will accompany the singing.

By request the “ Act' of Remembrance ” will be staged. During this the theatre will be darkened while a neon cross appears on the screen. Led by ex-servicemen, all present will give the vow, “We Will Remembef Them.” ,

Weather permitting, after the service the parade will line -up outside the theatre and march to the Cenotaph for the ceremony of laying the wreaths in the following order: Matamata citizens (the Mayoress), Matamata R.S.A; (nursing sisters and president), Walton R.S.A., Rovers, Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies, Matamata District High School (children and staff), Churches, Women’s Guilds, Institutes and Divisions, Plunket Society, Lodges, any other public bodies, private wreaths. ’ Any bodies not included are requested to report to the Matamata R.S.A. officials. The parade will form up at the Domain gates at 1.40 p.m. and move off very promptly at 1.50 p.m. led by the Matamata Citzens’ Band, together with the Putaruru Band, under Bandmaster W. Marks.

A guard under Sergeant D. S'. Vincent will be mounted at the Cenotaph while the parade passes and also while the wreaths are being laid.
