A charming wedding of considerable interest to Matamata and Oko- * roire residents was solemnised at St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Upper Kliyber Pass, Auckland, on Saturday, March 11, when Betty Naida, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Turkington, of Matamata, was married to Reginald Charles, only son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Waugh, of Waiukn, ** and formerly of Reading, England. The Rev. Dr.'R. C. Gillie, M.A., officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a becoming white garbardine suit, with navy blue relief. A navy -picture hat and navy accessories completed a chic toilette. The bride, carried a bouquet of cream gladioli and blue larkspur, intermingled with maidenhair fern. Miss Mae Turkington, of Matamata (sister of the bride), attended * as bridesmaid. She wore a smart mermaid blue sharkskin frock, ornamented with navy buttons, and navy hat and accessories. Her bouquet was of pink carnations, miniature * cactus dahlias and maidenhair fern. Mr. Ken. Dee, of Okoroire, acted as best man. . > Following the marriage ceremony, a reception was held at the residence of Mr. W. J. Horrell, Mt. Albert, where the guests were received by > the bride’s mother. Mrs. Turkington wore a pretty frock of navy lace over satin, with a white gardenia at the neckline. Her hat and accessories were also navy. f When Mr. and Mrs. R. Waugh left on their honeymoon the bride travelled in a brown check tailored frock and fur coat, with matching accessohies.
WYATT—-STEVENS The marriage took place at St. Mark’s Church, Te Aroha, recently, of Eileen June, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Stevens, of Te Aroha, who a few years ago were resident in Matamata, and James Temple, elder son of Mr. and the late Mrs. N. P. Wyatt, of Whangarei. The church had been prettily recorated by friends, and the St. Mark’s choir, of which both parties were members, attended in full force. Canon C. W. Turner officiated and Mrs. D. Burt played the wedding music. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore parchment all-over lace, cowl necklined. with fully flared skirt forming a slight train. Her dainty knee-length veil was worn over the face, and was held with a cluster of pearl orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of tawney softly toned dahlias. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Colleen Mclntyre (Matamata) and Miss Wendy Stevens (sister of the bride), both of whom were frocked attractively in parchment ripple chiffon of floral pattern, in shades of maize and leaf green. Fashioned on princess lines, their dresses were featured with large puffed sleeves. Halo hats worn on the back of the head were another feature, and they carried Victorian posies of warm autumn shades.
Mr. P. N. Ray, of Te Aroha, attended as best man, and Mr. R. Pharo, also of Te Aroha, as groomsman.
The reception was held at the Hot Springs Hotel, where Mrs. Stevens received her guests in a becoming mulberry frock shirred at shoulders, and front panel. She wore a mulberry hat to tone, and a corsage spray of deep pink tones. Mrs. Stevens was assisted by Miss E. Wyatt, godmother of the bride-
groom, who wore a navy costume with hat and accessories to tone. The usual toast list was honoured, Canon C. W. Turner proving a most efficient toastmaster.
Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt left later by car on an extensive tour, the bride travelling in a storm blue costume, with hat to tone.
On their return they will make their future home at Herriesville, Te Aroha.
