settlers REVISIT SWITZER- 3 LAND The Springdale Hall was filled to ' capacity on Wednesday evening, when the residents of the district held a social and dance in order to say" au * revoir to Mr, and Mrs. J. Werder, Mr., and Mrs. L. Mathias and Mr. and Mrsv K. Steiner, who are leaving on a visit to their native country, Switzerland. It is many years since these settlers left Europe to live in New Zealand,, where their families have j grown up. During, their absence of about eight months their families will carry on their farms.. On behalf of the people of Springdale Mr. J. W. Nicholson, expressed the goodwill of neighbours and wished the guests of the evening an * enjoyable trip and a safe return. They were presented, with fountain pens and pencil sets.. On behalf of the Springdale Sports Club Mr. 0. Johansen added a tribute to the guests of. the evening, who* have done good work for the club. r Messrs. Werder, Mathias and Steiner took up unimproved land fronting on to No. 7 road andi Whakahoro road 20 years ago;, and have been particularly hard-working and capable settlers who Have? brought their holdings to a high, state? of - production.
