FAREWELL EVENING

MR. AND MRS. N. THOMAS To farewell Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Thomas, who are leaving the district * to reside at Tauranga, a very large number of friends gathered in the Tirau Town Hall. The function was arranged by members of the Tirau Tennis Club. The evening took the form of a dance. Music was played toy Mrs. T. Cotter, Mr. K. Musker and Mr. Robinson Mr. Anderson was in charge of the floor arrangements. A novelty dance was won by Mr. N. Breward and Miss Valerie Gubb, of Gkoroire.

During the evening the president of the Tirau Tennis Club. Mr. S. .T p Bear, made a presentation of a silver teapot and a handsome leather suitcase to the guests of the evening. In making the presentation Mr. Bear expressed regret at the loss to the district of two valued members, wlio had entered wholeheartedly into local activities and Social work. Musical honours and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” 'brought the evening to a close. Among the ladies present were * Mesdames M. Harrison, M. Strong, W. Goodwin. Gordon Brown, N. Horscroft, H. Opportunity was taken by Mr. N. Horscroft to make a presentation of a fountain pen to Mr. Thomas on behalf of his staff. During the evening speeches were made by Mr. S. J. Bear, Mr. N. Horscroft, Mr. M. Harrison and Mr. H. F. Morse. Music was supplied by Mr Morse (piano accordeon), and items were given by Mr. H. Wine, Mr. J. Batley, Mr Sleeman and Mr Bear. The evening concluded with musical honours.
