MATAMATA JUST BEATEN At Rotorua Tournament Matamata teams made a good showing in the tournament for the Kurungaituku Cup at Rotorua on Friday and Saturday. Results of interest were: — Friday’s Play Section A.—Matamata >C 3, Napier 22; Matamata C 4, Te Aroha Old Pupils 14; Matamata C 3, Paeroa 12; Matamata C 6, Rotorua A 21. Section B.— Matamata A 23, Hawke’s Bay Central B 4; Matamata A 9, Thames 6; Matamata A 11, Waikino 2‘; Matamata A 21, Te Awamutu 4.
Section C.—Matamata B won by default from Ngaruawahia; Matamata B 17, Gisborne 2; Matamata B 7, Central Hawke’s Bay A 9; Matamata B 9, Whakatane 17.
% Saturday’s Play Wellington beat Matamata A by 14 —13 after extra time had been played. Napier beat Hastings, 13—5. Final.—Wellington drew with Napier, 6—6.
