WANT A BONUS NEXT TEAR

MORRINSVILLE SUPPLIERS And the Guaranteed Price To pay out everything or keep some money back for a bonus ! That is the question which directors of dairy companies will have to decide during the present dairying season when they will operate under the Government’s “ guaranteed price” scheme. The Government will pay out to the companies every month, so that there will not be the same delay in realising on produce that has existed in the past when produce was sent on consignment to Britain.

“ Are we to pay out the full amount each month as we receive it or are we to keep back something from which to pay a bonus V* asked Mr. J. E. Leeson, chairman of director's, at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Company. Directors were also suppliers, said Mr. Leeson, and they found that a bonus in June and July came in very handy. Mr. H. V. Haszard: I would like the present system to continue. I will move that the directors retain the equivalent of lid per pound butterfat and pay it out on the basis of id per pound in June, July and August. Mr. W. Sharp proposed that the payout be left entirely with the directors.

Mr. A. A. Browne: We do not know what we are going to get, or what wages we will have to pay; so we should leave it to the directors. Mr. F. W. Seifert: The directors want to know whether the meeting would prefer a bonus, if possible.

Mr. Haszard: I am in favour of a bonus.

The chairman: If it is left to the discretion of the directors they can take whatever action is necessary. Mr. L. Mapp said it was a matter of how much the guaranteed price would be. If it were, say, Is 4d then hold back a portion; if it were only lid, the suppliers would want their money. Finally the following resolution was agreed to: " That it be a recommendation to the directors to retain a certain amount from the guaranteed price for a bonus payment during the winter months of 1937.” Questioned as to what the " anteed price" would be, Mr. Leeson said all he could do was to repeat what the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Nash) had told the N.D.A. conference at Hastings: "It will be better than last year, it will be better than the year before that, and better than the year before that.” "If I go as far as the Minister I do not think I can be expected to go further,” added Mr. Leeson.
