CHILDREN'S CALF CLUB?

Plans for New Season At the third annual meeting of the Morrinsville Calf Club Mr. R. • Heaton (Kereone) presided, and • Total of 126 Calves Seven sehools with 126 calves took part in the competition during the 1935-36 season, the schools being Morrinsville, Motumaoho, Mangateparu, Te Puninga, Tatuanui, Kereone and Whitikahu. The calves were judged, at the schools in December by Mr. W.. Montgomerie, of Te Aroha, who devoted three days to this work. Mr. Montgomerie also judged the calves which were paraded at the Morrinsville A. and P. Show in March. The club received a subsidy of £& 18s from the Education Department* and on presentation of accounts for the year ended on June 30 a further subsidy will be paid. The year ended with a credit balance of £6 Is feu The Morrinsville A. and P. Society now has a comprehensive calf clubsection with prizes for the champion calf, best yearling, best two-year-old and best three-year-old, and best diary exhibited by club members. ; . The meeting approved of the Education Department’s proposals for the organisation of boys' and girls calf clutjs for each school, with representatives of each club forming a group committee. Rules for clubs in , the Morrinsville district were approved. These provide for every child attending the schools to bd eligible for membership, and calves must be registered within a fortnight of birth. Calves entered must be those born in July or August.. The representatives of the various schools undertook to form schobl clubs in their districts during the next few weeks so that a general meeting of delegates could be Held on ‘"a date to be arranged. A senior pupil of each school will be the retary of the school club and will '—- take entries and forward particulars to the group secretary. A supply of button badges is tO' be procured, each child rearing a calf to receive a badge. Votes of Thanks

Appreciation was expressed of the services of Mr. W-, Montgomerie, of Te Aroha, who has acted as judge of calves at the schools ever since the club was formed. A letter of thanks is to be sent to Mr. Montgomerie. Mr. M. J. Davies offered to donate a shield as a trophy for the school parading the three best calves at the show. This offer was accepted with a vote of thanks by acclamation. Thanks were expressed to the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers' Union for donating 22s 6d for prizes awarded for the best-kept notebooks describing the rearing of the calves. The chairman expressed the club’s appreciation of the work of Mr. A. G. Strahan as honorary secretary of the club since its inception, and its regret that he had tendered his resignation owing to pressure of other business. A motion placing on record appreciation of Mr. Strahan’a services was carried, and he was voted £2 2s as a token of the club’s esteem. Mr. Heaton was appointed honorary secretary.
