FARMERS’ SOCIAL
MEN’S AND- WOMEN’S DIVISIONS Joining forces for the evening, the Morriimille branch of the Farmers’ Union and the W.D.F.U. held a social evening in the Civic Theatre on Wednesday. The cold weather affected - the attendance, but there was a representative gathering from all parts of the Morrinsville district, and good entertainment for old and young was provided by dancing interspersed with items. A welcome to all present was expressed by Mr. M. E. Barrowclough, vice-president of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers’ Union, who apologised for the absence through indisposition of the president, Mr. S. A. Ferguson. Mr. Barrowclough extended a special welcome to Mr. H. 0. Mellsop, Auckland provincial president, and Mrs. Mellsop, who arrived late in the evening after attending a function at Cambridge; also to Mr. D. B. Higgins, representing the Rotorua sub-province and Mrs. Higgins; and to Mrs. Donovan, representing the Thames Valley province of the W.D.F.U.; and to the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Osborne). Although the lights failed just before supper time those present kept the programme going with improvised lighting. Much credit is due to the Morrinsville W.D.F.U. members, who were present in good numbers under the leadership of their president, Mrs. H. Wilcox.
