STOCK ON ROADS
COMPLAINTS TO COUNCIL In a letter commenting upon the prevalence of stock on county roads received by the Matamata County Council on Monday, a ratepayer drew attention to the serious danger thus presented to motorists. A few months previously the writer had damaged his car to the extent of £2O through colliding with a bull. Some weeks later a farm hand had been sent to hospital with injuries in a collision with wandering stock at Arapuni. Recently he had counted 81 head of cattle be tween Pah road, Maungatautari, and Waotu road, Putaruru. He urged that the position be improved urgently. The clerk reported that the ranger was hindered by having no horse and being unable to handle bulls. Cr. A. Wallace thought it was just a case of suing offending owners, but the engineer pointed out the difficulty of proving ownership.

Cox was appointed to arrange for a man for Putaruru and adjacent districts. The clerk reported an an arrangement between the Matamata and Cambridge councils making the Cambridge ranger responsible for certain roads.
