CALEDONIAN CONCERT

AID OF CHURCH FUNDS An excellent concert, organised by the Matamata (Caledonian Society in aid of the missionary fund of the Presbyterian Guild, was given in St. Andrew’s Hall to an appreciative audience. Mr. Dug. Mclsaac acted as official piper. The items were many and varied, and all encored. Light-footed and lively exhibitions of Highland dancing were interspersed with songs and recitations. A novel and most pleasing feature was a mouth organ band, accompanied on their second appearance by a sonorous banjo. The effect was exceedingly tuneful, and showed wnat can be done by enthusiasts with musical ears. A yodelling cowboy song by Mr. Andrews was another unexpected and clever contribution to the entertainment. The play, “Boss of the House,” brought out histrionic talent in the persons of Mrs. S. Stanley and Messrs. J. Gear and J. Foggo. Altogether all artistes combined to give a thoroughly enjoyable entertainment worthy of a larger audience.

Mr. H. E. Schofield was at the piano, while Mr. D. Mclsaac (pipes) and Mr. J. Dobson (violin) played for the dancers. “ Auld Lang Syne ” and God Save the King brought the evening to £ close. Following, is the full pro gramme: National Anthem; piping in the chief; song and chorus, “Hail Caledonia,” Mrs. Stanley, Miss Ped ersen and members; song, Miss Pat erson; foursome dance, children song, Mr. N.
