COWELL—HEMSLEY.
was formed by Girl Guides and Brownies, the bride having been their captain, from which position she resigned on her marriage. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a graceful pearltrimmed gown of white crackle crepe, featuring long sleeves, flared from the elbow, a slim-fitting corsage and an ankle-length flared skirt. A richly-embroidered silk net veil was arranged at the head with a coronet of orange blossom and pearls. Her pretty shower bouquet was of white carnations, stocks, azaleas and sweet peas. The Misses Kathleen and Lucie Hemsley, sisters of the bride, were her attendants. They wore similarlyfashioned frocks of willow green and lilac crepe de chine respectively. The ankle-length skirts were frilled at the hemlines, and the matching capes worn, which were also frillel, were caught on one shoulder with a cluster of rosebuds. Dainty Dutch caps of silk lace and rosebuds were worn to match each frock, and bouquets of flowers to tone were carried.
Mr. A. Martin was best man, and Mr. C. Martin was groomsman. At the reception, held at the Rialto, the tables were decorated in mauve and green to match the ensembles of the bridesmaids. Mrs. Hemsley, mother of the bride, who received about 50 guests, wore a Lido blue silk marocain frock, a primrose felt hat and silver fox furs, and carried a posy of flowers to tone. Mrs. J. C. Harvut, of Christchurch, sister of the bridegroom, wore a dahlia red celanese frock, with hat to match, and a black face cloth coat.
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Cowell, whose future home will be at Okauia, left later on a honeymoon tour of the North, the bride wearing a chic black costume, tangerine blouse, felt hat and fox furs.
BROWN—SMITH. A pretty wedding, attended by a number of Tauhei district friends, was solemnised in the Morrinsville Methodist Church by the Rev. F. Gardner Brown on Wednesday, when Miss Mary Elizabeth Smith, third daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. S. A. Smith, of Tauhei, was married to Mr. Stephen Brown, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Brown, of Reporoa, and nephew of Mr. J. Brown, of Tauhei. The wedding music was played by Mrs. F. Gardner Brown. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a gown of
ivory white crepe de chine with cowl collar, long sleeves, and skirt flared from the sides. Her beautiful lace veil was held at the head with a coronet of orange blossoms and fell to form a train, and she carried a bouquet of white spring flowers to tone.
The bride’s sister, Miss Zoe Smith, attended as bridesmaid, and her frock was of pink crepe de chine with frilled cape effect, tulle headdress and bouquet of pink blooms to match.
Little Beryl Jones, niece of the bride, was a charming flower girl, dressed in a frock of blue crepe de chine also featuring the frilled cape effect. The best man was Mr. Neil Brown, brother of the bridegroom. Over 50 guests attended the reception, held at the Masonic Hall. Among those present were : Mr. and i Mrs. R. Brown, Messrs. N. and M. Drabble, Mrs. Oram (Te Awamutu), Mrs. Arnold, Rev. and Mrs. Gardner Brown, Mrs. and Miss K. Noble, Mr. and Mrs. Heartley. Later the newly-married couple left by car on their honeymoon, the bride being dressed in blue.
In All Saints’ Anglican Church, Matamata, on Saturday the Rev. J. W. Burley officiated at the marriage of Winifred Violet, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hemsley, of Banks road, Matamata, and Thomas William, third son of Mr. Cowell, of Hornchurch, Essex, England, and the late Mrs. Cowell. Mrs. Burley played the wedding music. A guard of honour at the entrance to the church
