Personal.
Miss Rose, of Mt. Eden, is on a visit to Tirau, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. Rose.
Mr. O’Connell, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. Davis, has returned to Wellington.
Miss Rutherford has returned to her home in the Wairarapa after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. Bailey. Basketball.
A ladies’ basketball club has recently been formed in Tirau under the captaincy of Mrs. R. Litchfield. The team has played several friendly matches with the Tirau team, and although so far has not proved victorious, a great improvement in team-work is apparent and the promise of better games in the future.
Card Evening.
The W.D.F.U. held another successful card evening in the Tirau Hall last week. Prizes were won by Mrs. Barton, Mr. D. Newport and Mrs. W. G. Allen (consolation) for euchre, and by Mrs. Naysmith- Mr. W. Craig and Mr. O’Connell (consolation) for 500. Dancing followed to popular music supplied by Mrs. Bishop and Mr. R. Marshall.
Thames Fatality.
Mr. B. Ludwig, who was burned to death in the recent hotel fire at Thames, was a former resident of Tirau.
Measles Outbreak. There have been several cases of measles in the district during the last week or two. Many children are away from school suffering from the malady, and some under school age have also fallen victims. The cases have all ben mild, so far, and no complications have set in.
