Kereone.
, \ Milk Production Declining. Milk production is steadily declining owing .to the weather becoming cooler. The weather is trending to semi-drought conditions with colder nights and Rot days. On two nights of last week there were light frosts at Kereone. Farmers would welcome a warm rain which would freshen the pastures and check the parching of the grass. Should the present great growth of grass maintain a little longer, the stock will enter the winter period in the pink of condition. In any case the majority of farmers have an increased quantity of stack feed for winter. Effect of Herd-Testing. Many more herds hr.ve been tested in the Kiwitahi-Kereo.i.e group this year, and annually more join up. It is recognised now that no farmer is capable of judging accurately his herd and when it has been placed under test his calculations are rudely upset. Further, it is only when he tests that he finds out what individual cows are producing. During the last few seasons Kereone farmers have fortunately had as much feed as their cows could eat, encoujaging them to carry additional stock, and get increased output, but also lowering the actual herd averages. Accidents. While chopping wood recently Mr. W. McDonald, of Kiwitahi, was struck in the eye with a flying splinter. The injury was very painful, and although not incapacitating him it will be some time before the wound heals. Residents of Kereone will regret to learn that Mrs. Anderson, senr., now residing at Te| Miro with Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Davies, had a collarbone injured last week when she slipped and fell upon the floor. Mrs. Anderson was in a private hospital in Morrinsville for a*? few days for treatment, but has now returned home. Personal. Friends of Mrs. K. S. Pearson, wife of the manager of the Kiwitahi cheese factory, will he glad to learn that she is out and about again, although feeling still a little weak. Mrs. Pearson has not been in the best of health for some time, and has been resting in bed for 10 weeks.
