TOWN DRAINAGE.
HUNGAHUNGA BOARD. “ Dictatorial Terms.” Exception was taken by the Hungahunga Drainage Board at its meeting last week to a letter forwarded by the Matamata Town Board. The Town Board, writing with regard to the pi-oportion of cost for cleaning the Waihekau drain, advised that on further consideration the Town Board was prepared to make an annual contribution of £25 for cleaning and maintaining the drafn up to the Drainage Board’s boundary, the amount of payment and the question of payment to be renewed at the expiration of three years. The contribution would be in respect of a period commencing April 1, 1930, and was to be accepted as full payment of all claims the Drainage Board may consider it had against the Town Board. The chairman (Mr. F. E. Hughes): They do not seem to be able to get over the habit of dictating the terms. It is this board which should dictate them. The clerk said exception should be taken to the proviso that the amount was) to be in full "settlement of any work the board may do.
