PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mata mata Primary School Committee wa; attended by the following 1 members I Rev. A. C. Hampton (chairman) Messrs. F. Banks (secretary), A Thirlwall, L. Flower, W. A. Turking ton, A. J. Tong, G. G. Griffiths am Mrs. Stanley (treasurer). Improvements. The chairman reported that wit Mr. Thirlwall he had met the archi tect to the Auckland Educatio Board, and he had practically prom ised that the schoolhouse would c painted outside and in, and a nei basin installed in the bathroom. PI also stated that the school and th outbuildings would be painted on th outside during the coming holidays but that the inside would have t wait until the long vacation. Th school fence would also be paintec The architect also asked him to ge a full report from a local plumber o the spouting and forward same to th board for attention. He also state that the saddle and tool shed shoul be done away with owing to its cor dition, and suggested that a £2 grant would be made for a new shec The chairman then tabled a repoi from a plumber on the condition o

' the spouting on the scnooi. Ml*T Flower commented' that it wa a very satisfactory interview. The chairman agreed even thougl ‘ it had taken them four or five year to get so far. On the motion of Mr. Turkingtor 1 it was decided to forward the repor on the spouting to the Educatioi Board. Playing Area.

Reporting on the playground th< ’ chairman stated that the suggeste< • area was now ready for mowing. Ai 1 inspection showed that it would mala ' a good football ground if a few o: the hollows were filled in. Th< i ground would run from the school t( the other street., In regard to th< police paddock, he was not impressec with it. There was every weed un der the sun in it, and it would neec fencing as it was too big for .the children to use as a horse paddock He thought they would be taking pt a burden if they took it over. / I Mr. Flower though it was unlikely that the use of the police padlock would be granted. The action of the sub-committee was endorsed. \ The Picnic. / Reporting on the picnic, the chairman stated that for the first time in the school’s history, he thought, they had been enabled to give the children drinks, ice-cream, peanuts, fruit, etc., free. After consultation with the teachers it had been decided to mhke all these things free. He desired to pay a tribute to the teachers for the manner in which they had assisted in making the day such a success. The committeemen’s wives and ladies of the general public had also responded well and brought sufficient baskets. Mr. Flower stated that the general opinion seemed to be that it was the most successful picnic yet held. Mrs. Stanley and Mr. Thirlwall stated that the community method of dealing with the food supply was far preferable to the old system oi’M'am-r ily groups. Date of Meetings. / Mr. Griffiths suggested that a recommendation should go forward to the incoming committee and to the High School committee that the date of meetings be alt6red on the lines of the headmaster’s report. It seemed absurd to meet at the end of one month to discuss the previous month’s report, while as the High School was the dominant body, it should meet after the school .committee so that it could deal promptly with recommendations. Mr. Thirlwall seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Balance-sheet. Messrs. Flower and Tong were appointed to assist the treasurer with the year’s financial statement.
