CARE OF BRAKES.
It is necessary that brakes should be tested and adjusted by an expert at least twice a year. The four-wheel brakes now in common use are extremely powerful, but if the pressure through faulty adjustment does not apply equally to all wheels the chassis may be strained and the car may even be thrown out of its true course, causing a bad skid. It is generally believed that the application of four-wheel brakes will prevent skidding. Even if the four brakes clamp simultaneously the car will continue its skid on a greasy road, and if the brakes behave erratically brake pressure will increase the skid. \ •, i
