WILL NOT ATTEND MEETINGS.
SECRETARY RESIGNS. As Protest Against Apathy. When the election of officers stage of the Putaruru branch of the Farmers’ Union annual meeting was reached on Saturday, all went well until the election of a secretary came up for decision. Mr. L. M. Nicklin, the retiring secretary, was immediately nominated, but he declined, stating that he did so as a protest against the apathy of members in not attending meetings. Mr. Nicklin outlined the amount of work the position, had necessitated, and gave a list of attendances at the various meetings. Mr. A. R. Vosper said that all appreciated the amount of work the secretary had done. Mr. Nicklin made it clear that he would not reconsider his position, and the meeting by applause placed on record their appreciation of his services to the union. Mr. Scrivener offered to fill the position in a temporary capacity,- and the offer was accepted. Messrs. A. R. Vosper and Scrivener were appointed to look out for a successor to Mr. Nicklin.
