ANNUAL MEETING. A Progressive Institution. The annual meeting of the Putaruru Public Library was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday, Mr. R. G. Hutton, chairman of the committee, presided. • , The report stated that 320 new books had been added, bringing the total up to 1000 volumes. When taken over from the Ladies’ Glee Club, there were 680 volumes on the shelves. The thanks of the committee was extended to the Misses Strugnell, Messrs. C. H. Wade and J. C. Ross, and all others who had donated books during the year. The ladies mentioned gave 30 books. The membership stood at 54. The thanks of the committee was also to the ladies who had assisted, either by acting as librarians or in organising various efforts, and to Mr, S. ,J. Parker for his services as auditor. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts for the year totalled £65 10s. Of this £39 12s lid was received in subscriptions, and £25 17s Id by way of donations. Included in the latter were £8 9s subsidy, ' Department of Education/ - Putaruru Town Board £1 18s, Ladies’ Glee Club 12s 6d. A cake stall organised by Mesdames Alcorn, Tulloch, Scott, T. F. Snell and the Misses Strugnell realised £6 4s, and the balance represented the bank balance, £8 13s 7d, from the Ladies’ Glee Club. Payments for the year totalled £6l 2s lOd, of which £3l 13s 6d was spent on tiooks, £l9 15s on rent and £9 14s 4d in sundry expenses. By the rules of the libary the present committee remain in office without having to seek re-election. Those present expressed their keen appreciation of tjie services rendered by the secretary, Mr. Root. 1 '
