FORCED LANDING.
BY AEROPLANE. During the driving rain on Monday an aeroplane piloted by Squad-ron-Leader Isitt, and containing Major Myles, as passenger, made a forced landing in Matamata, owing to the poor visibility obtaining at the time. The plane was-on its way to Rotorua to co-operate with the artillery which is now in camp on Rotorua racecourse. The landing was made in Mr. Delaney’s paddock, near the cheese factory, and, owing to the poor visibility, a wire fence was hit, with the result that one wing, the left bottom one, was completely broken and the other damaged. A new wing had to be procured from Auckland and repairs affected to the other. The plane was brought to Messrs. McL. Wallace’s garage, where mechanics from the Auckland base effected the repairs, which took about nine hours. Neither of the occupants of the plane was hurt, and Squadron-Leader Isitt left for Rotorua at about 9.45 on Wednesday morning in the same machine.
