PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
MARCH MEETING. The March meeting of the Piako County Council was held on Tuesday, the chairman, Cr. W. R. Lowry (Kiwitahi) presiding. Those present were: Crs. W. McLean (Walton), W. F. Stark (Morrinsville), J. M. Stewart (Tahuna), F. W. Walters (Waitoa), W. C. Kennedy y(Waihou), H. Magill (Te Aroha) and W. H. Emett (Manawaru). Profits from Quarries. A statement of the' operating costs of the county quarries for the year ending April 1, 1930, .was as follows: — Tahuna Quarry. —Expenditure £373 19s 7d, receipts £432 17s 2d, profit £SB 17s 7d, output 3707 yards, profit per .yard 3.8 d. Hinton’s Quarry. Expenditure £1.843 0s Bd, receipts £2494 2s Bd, profit £651 2s, output 5947 yards, profit per yard 26.2 d. Gordon Quarry.—Expenditure £269 7s 44, receipts £385 8s 9d, profit £ll6 Is sd, output 6725. yards, profit per yard 4.1 d. The chairman commented that the quarries were operating very satisfactorily. The profit of 2s 2d a yard at the Morrinsville quarry seemed rather big, but it was advisable to keep the price of metal as it was as there was a likelihood of considerable expenditure on machinery in fhq future. \ Auctioneer’s License. The clerk stated he had written to the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. as requested at last meeting asking the company to consider the council’s claim to one auctioneer’s license this year. “ For a number of years this has been overlooked and as there is a lot of business done by your firm in the Piako county, the council considers it would be only fair for them to receive one of the licenses again this year,” stated the clerk’s letter. No reply to this letter had yet been received.
