Y.M.C.A. Closed. The following members attended a meeting of the executive of the Social Club on Thursday evening : Messrs. T. Walker (chairman), J. Blyth, J. Dickey, J. Kirk, C. Barker, H. Rochfor, C. Cresswell, R. Mitchell and O. L. Lasenby (secretary). The support accorded the oragnisation in the past few months has not been sufficient to warrant the employment of a permanent caretaker, and since Christmas the institution has been used as a reading room only, as the billiards room and kitchen portion of the building have been closed. The committee decided that every endeavour had been made to popularise the institution as a meeting place for the young men of the district but that it had become very evident that such a place was not now a need in the locality. It was thus necessary to close the building, and this will be put into effect forthwith. The building referred to was formerly known as the Y.M.C.A., being an industrial branch of that oragnisation, and was opened in 1922. Mr. A. Dimmer was the first secretary. Under his management the Y.M.C.A. was the popular meeting place of the young men of the district for several years. Concerts and entertainments such as card evenings and dances were held in the social hall. Latterly, however, entertainments of various kinds have been provided in other directions, and the support accorded the Y.M.C.A. has waned in consequence. Following the closing of the building it is anticipated that the equipment will be disposed of by the committee. Such property as the piano, billiards table and the furniture were supplied when the building was placed at the disposal of the local residents, and these will doubtless be despatched to other centres. Tennis. The competitions for the trophies donated by the trustees of the Herbert Smith Fund at Hamilton for junior players were concluded during the week. The winners were Miss J. Salter and Master T. Ryan. Personal. Mr. A. M. Stewart has returned from a trip to East Coast districts. Mr. C. F. Moore, of Rangiora, Hokianga, has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. Farley, after having been an inmate of the Waikato Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Scott are at present visiting relatives in Auckland. . Public Hall Affairs. The monthly meeting of the Hall Committee on Tuesday evening was attended by Messrs. W. P. Ryan (chairman), J. S. Dickey, W. E. Ayers, G. T. Newsome, D. R. Gunn, O. L. Lasenby and the secretary (Mr. W. Farley). ( The financial report for the past month revealed that fairly satisfactory results had been secured on the occasions that pictures fcad been shown. The latter entertainments are held on Saturday evenings only, the Wednesday evening pictures having been abandoned as the result of poor support being secured then.
