“ How old is the consumer’s daughter?” was the apparently irrelevant question put to a member of the Poverty Bay Power Board by the consulting engineer, Mr. H. F. Too- ' • good, when it was reported that in. one case there had been an extraordinary increase in the household expense for current recently, in comparison with similar periods of last year. The question caused some merriment, but the consulting engineer kept a straight face as he pointed out that had the daughter of the house since last year attained an age at which dances and parties were permitted, the electric iron might find; a vastly greater degree of employment. Members of the board admitted that there might be something in the hypothesis.
