RICHMOND DOWNS TOURNEY.

On Saturday under ideal conditions the Richmond Downs mixed doubles handicap tournament was conducted and many good games were witnessed. Details are:—

First Round.—Miss Watson and G. Fausett (16) lost to Miss Gallagher and L. Fausett (10), 61—54 ; Miss Nichblls and A. Adams (28) lost to Mr. and Mrs. L. Kirk (11), 61—54 ; Miss Martin and W. Kuhtz (23) lost to Miss Fausett and C. Mapp (17), 61—51.

Second Round—Miss Nicholls and A. Lane (18) lost to Miss Fausett and C. Mapp (17), 61—60 ; Miss Watson and C. Martin (29) lost to Miss Gallagher and L. Fausett (10), 61 —60. Third Round.—Miss Fausett and C. Mapp (17) lost to Mr. and Mrs. J. Kirk (11), 61—56. Final. —Mr. and Mrs. L. Kirk (11) lost to Miss Gallagher and L. Fausett (10), 61—50.

i WAIKATO E. v. TAUMARUNUI.

The above two teams met at Hamilton on Saturday in the semi-final match of the Banner Competition. The contest proved to be a very close one, Waikato winning by the narrow margin of 15 games, being equal in the matches. Details of the scores are as follows, 'Waikato players being mentioned first in each instance:

Ladies’ Singles.—Miss N. Beverley lost to Miss McPherson, 6 —9; Miss M. Beverley lost to Mrs. Kerr, 5 —9; Miss Green lost to Mrs. Butt, 6 —9; Miss Stewart beat Miss Carlson, 9—7; Mrs. Dempster lost to Mrs. Simmonds, 6 —9; Miss Matheson beat Miss O’Brien, 9—7. Men’s Singles.—Laurenson beat Thomas, 9—3; Thompson beat McDonald, 9 —2; Ward beat Jones, 9—6; Bassett beat T. Jones, 9—3; Cox beat Groom, 9—5; Green beat Hunter* 9—5.

Men’s Doubles. Laurenson and Thompson beat Thomas and McDonald, 9—3; Ward and Bassett, lost to Jones and Jones, B—9; Cox and Green beat Groom and Hunter, 9—5.

Ladies’ Doubles.— Misses N. and M. Combined Doubles. —Miss N. Beverley and Laurenson lost to Miss McPherson and Thomas, B—9; Miss M. Beverley and Thompson lost to Mrs. Kerr and McDonald, B—9; Miss Green and Ward lost to Mrs. Butt and J. Jones, 4—9; Miss Stewart and Bassett lost to Miss Carlson and T. Jones, 5—9; Mrs. Dempster and Cox beat Mrs. Simmonds and Groom, 9—6; Miss Matheson and Green beat Miss O’Brien and Hunter, 9—7. Total score.—Waikato East, 12 sets, 182 games; Taumarunui, 12 sets, 167 games. As a result of the above victory, Waikato East now meet Hamilton in the final.
