CATTLE SUPPLY.
INCREASE IN ENGLAND. The statistics of livestock are more encouraging than those dealing with crop production. The total number of cattle shows an Increase of 21,900, as compared with that of last year, which was- the highest ■ recorded up to that date. The total, moreover, is 321,000 above thg average of the ten years 1917-26. It is interesting to note, by the way, that the increases were practically confined to the .North of England and Wales. Most of the counties on the eastern side of the country and in the south showed reductions. V Last year it was the opposite way about. Then the decreases were confined to the North of England and Wales. It is probably significant of the increased attention being devoted to dairying a 3 a paying proposition that the number of cows and heifers in milk or in calf again constitutes a record. The number of younger cattle —under one year —has been reduced by over 31,000, but at the same time the total has seldom been exceeded except during the war. The number of feeding cattlo show an increase of 7200. There has been an increase in the number of sheep, although tho rate of increase is much smaller than in the previous four years. On the other hand, there has been a sharp increase in the pig population on agricultural holdings, last . year’s decrease having been more than wip@4 out. Every county in ' England shared in the increase, and there is a increase in the number - . of breeding sows. Horses op agricultural “Wrings show a reduction on last year, and foals shqw a. reduction of oq last
